Sustainable green design – presenting the Koivu plant pot series

GREEN INTERIOR DESIGN

The products in the Koivu pot series are designed and manufactured in Finland from Finnish birch plywood. The Koivu pot is a beautiful, functional, and responsibly produced home for plants. The manufacturing method of the pots is new, and a patent is pending.

Koivu – the union of beauty and functionality

The timeless design of the Koivu pots make them suitable for a wide range of spaces and atmospheres. Thanks to the flexibility of the birch plywood, the pots are virtually seamless, and the natural wood grain gives each pot a unique surface.

Koivu combines first-class Finnish wood design and functionality. All pots are made on demand in Finland from Finnish birch plywood. Thanks to the unique collar built on the inside, the pots are stable, which makes them withstand moving and the weight of the plants, even though the plywood itself is light. The surface is treated with Tikkurila’s Supi sauna wax, which belongs to the best M1 emission class and contains natural wax.

The Koivu pot series includes large pots suitable as room dividers. The medium-sized and small pots in the series beautify the interior, for example in various pot arrangements. You can choose a pot with short legs, wheels, or high legs. The most spectacular arrangement can be achieved by combining Koivu pots in different shapes and with different feet.

Sustainable green design with Koivu pots

The idea of the Koivu pots was born from a desire to create more sustainable green design solutions.

“A good pot is often thought to be one that fits the interior design. We, however, demand more. The pot needs to be manufactured and transported sustainably both from an environmental and socioeconomically responsible view”, says Mikko Sonninen,

Finland’s market leader InnoGreen delivers thousands of plants along with pots to their clients each year. During the pandemic there were challenges in the availability of pots. The selection of pots has shrunk, and it has been more challenging than before to find pots produced according to the principles of sustainable development.

A large share of the pots on the market are made in the Far East, and it is almost impossible to be sure that the production and transportation are ethical and environmentally friendly. When InnoGreen couldn’t seem to find a suitable partner, only one option remained: We had to make the pots ourselves. Now InnoGreen can guarantee the responsibility of the production and delivery through the entire production chain.

“Especially large plants often travel far before they reach their final home. If the pots also make the same journey, one green plant has already accumulated quite a carbon footprint. We want to do our part in making sure that green interior design can be done in an even more responsible way. The Koivu pots are made on demand from Finnish birch plywood in Nastola, so the journey from the factory to the final home is very short in comparison. Local cooperation also guarantees a short delivery time and good availability,” says Mikko Sonninen.
